Luke was made Deacon in December 1990 in the Cathedral of the Holy Nativity in Pietermaritzburg, Diocese of Natal. He had trained at St. Paul's (now College of the Transfiguration - COTT) in
Grahamstown from 1988 for three years. Luke is married to Jenny, and their firstborn, a daughter, Lisa, was born in Grahamstown and Rachel, their secondborn, during their curacy. During this time Jenny continued her work in the medical profession as a nursing sister working in the community health field.
He and Jenny moved with Lisa, 18 months, to the Parish of St. James', Greytown, in the Diocese of Natal where they served their curacy. Rachel was born 4 months later.
During the curacy and the years thereafter, Jenny started in private practice running ante-natal and post-natal classes. During their time in Tzaneen she ran her own clinic offering a wide range of medical services from Well Baby to Primary Health and was one of very few registered Travel Clinics in Limpopo.
In July of 1992 the family moved to St. Mary's in Richmond, Natal whre he was made Rector of this rural parish and priest in charge of the Parish of Mid-Illovo. They ministered here for 7 years before accepting a call to move to the Diocese of St. Mark the Evangelist.
Their move to Tzaneen as Rector of the Parish of Letaba, Diocese of St. Mark the Evangelist in the lowveld of Limpopo was a time of growing and development. Luke was made Archdeacon of the Mopani Archdeaconry soon after their arrival. He also read for a Masters Degree in Organisational Leadership (studying on-line) from Eastern University in the USA.
In May of 2011 they moved to Polokwane and Luke was installed as the first Dean of the newly inaugurated Christ Church Cathedral. This inner city parish has served Pietersberg, now Polokwane, since 1895. As a cathedral the parish has a mandate to plant new churches in the rapidly growing city of Polokwane whilst Luke will also assist the Diocesan, Bishop Martin Breytenbach, with wider diocesan work.
Luke and Jenny continue in this ministry to this day. Lisa and Rachel have sine graduated and are starting their own careers.
